According to the Constitution, one of the roles of the federal government reads as follows:

Article IV, Section 4:

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion;

Needless to say, that protection hasn't been provided to the states. In fact, the Obama Administration has sued states to prevent them from protecting themselves against the physical, financial and social burden of illegal immigration. Legislators need to construct an immigration policy that meets the needs of our country and provides a fair and equitable process for business owners to hire qualified people. Whether it be highly skilled technical consultants or agricultural field hands, American interests need to be served first, and proper legislation should be crafted accordingly. There is so much posturing and pandering on the issue of immigration that legitimate concerns of our business community go unaddressed.

Where jobs can be filled by current U.S. citizens, they should be - there are no "ignoble" jobs that aren't worthy of respect. Some claim that these are jobs that no American wants, which is a fallacy. Construction, landscaping, restaurant work, agriculture, hospitality (hotels), domestic services and other such jobs are often performed by born and bred Americans, and have been for centuries. In the event that these immediate job vacancies aren't filled, many of them can be assigned to people on the welfare roles or unemployment. We simply don't have the financial resources to keep paying millions of people not to work. Perhaps some employers will need to pay higher wages to attract replacement workers who are citizens or legal immigrants, but handling these types of issues and restructuring business to be profitable is part of capitalism. With millions of people going back to work the overall economy will increase and most businesses should see significant additional activity. Plus, for every person who leaves unemployment it saves the country thousands of dollars, helping to reduce federal expenses and accelerating the rate that we can pay off the debt.

Hundreds of billions of dollars are "lost" on healthcare that's "given" out by hospitals and healthcare workers to illegal immigrants, and their departure would help to reduce overall hospital and doctor's fees as well as health insurance costs that have to passed on to those who actually pay into the system. Our school systems also devotes resources to accommodate non-English speaking students that are in the country illegally, lowering the quality of education to citizens and legal residents.
